H.E. Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the People’s
Republic of Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, M.P ., Hon’ble State Minister for
Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9 July 2026. The meeting reaffirmed the
longstanding friendship and excellent relations between Algeria and Bangladesh, while providing an
opportunity to review the positive momentum of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on further
strengthening the partnership across a wide range of areas of mutual interest.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in strategic sectors, including energy, trade and
investment, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, fisheries and aquaculture, as well as manpower. In
this context, the State Minister highlighted Bangladesh’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Algeria in
the energy sector as part of the country’s long-term energy security strategy. She also welcomed the
ongoing efforts towards the establishment of a Joint Consultative Commission and underscored the
importance of promoting the recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled manpower, enhancing people-to-people
exchanges, and encouraging regular high-level visits to further consolidate bilateral relations.
For his part, Ambassador Saidani reiterated Algeria’s commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation,
particularly in the fields of energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and shipbuilding, while emphasizing the
importance of sustained political dialogue and high-level exchanges. He further reaffirmed the Embassy’s
readiness to provide all necessary consular support and facilitation to Bangladeshi diplomats and members
of the business community, thereby contributing to stronger institutional, economic and commercial ties
between the two countries. Both sides expressed confidence that the Algeria–Bangladesh partnership
would continue
