The 69th anniversary of the National Student Day

The 69th anniversary of the National Student Day, 19 May 1956 was observed at the premises of the Algerian Embassy in Dhaka this afternoon. The celebration began with hoisting the Algerian flag and National Anthem of Algeria. A minute of silence was observed and special prayer and recitation of Sura Fatiha was conducted in remembrance of the brave martyrs.
The Ambassador of Algeria Abdelouahab Saidani delivered a special speech on the significance of the historic day, where he marked how the students of Algeria and abroad—including those in secondary education adjourned their studies for a greater cause by the historic call of the General Union of Algerian Muslim Students (UGEMA) and participated at the national liberation movement. He remembered with great pride, the committed dedication and patriotism portrayed by all the students during the revolution movement. He reinforced the notable progress of Algeria in education including the great rise in overall literacy rates, and nationwide establishment of universities and institutes. He also urged and encouraged the students of both Algeria and Bangladesh, two friendly and brotherly nations considered as pillars of the Islamic Ummah, to participate in inter-university exchanges, student exchanges, and programs in order to strength the bilateral cooperation.
A series of audio-visual documentaries based on the significance of the 19 May was shown in front of the audience. The program was attended by a group of graceful students from both Algeria and Bangladesh, currently studding in various public and private universities of Bangladesh.
