Addressing the event held on the embassy premises at Baridhara, Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani said Algerian students and youths are the living force of today’s Algeria, an Algeria strong in their awareness, their national commitment, their creative and innovative skills and their successes, hailing their high level of awareness of the requirements of the situation in the country and of global challenges.
On this day, he said the General Union of Algerian Muslim Students (UGEMA) issued a historic call, urging students in Algeria and abroad, including those in secondary education, to suspend their studies and join the national liberation movement.Guided by the powerful slogans “Diplomas do not make better corpses”, these young men and women made a courageous choice: to exchange academic pursuit for national duty, said the ambassador, adding, “Today, we honour that generation of students whose commitment demonstrated that true patriotism lies not in privilege but in purpose.”Since then, Ambassador Abdelouahab Saidani said Algeria has achieved notable progress in education, literacy rates have impressively risen, and the higher education sector has flourished, with universities and institutes established nationwide. “These achievements reflect our ongoing commitment to education as a pillar of national development,” he added.
Speaking to the students, both from Bangladesh and Algeria attended the event, the Algerian ambassador urged them to work with unwavering dedication and to redouble their efforts for national development through pursuing knowledge.
He also urged the students to draw inspiration from the great sacrifice of Algerian students on 19 May 1956, a historic movement with a proven international dimension and impact.
