Celebrated the 63rd Anniversary of the Victory Day

Today, the Embassy of Algeria in Bangladesh, celebrated the 63rd Anniversary of the Victory Day of 19 March, at its headquarters in Dhaka, in the presence of journalists, dignitaries, Bangladeshi authorities, religious figures and members of the national community.
The commemoration of this day began with the hoisting of the Algerian flag and the playing of the national anthem, followed by a minute’s silence in memory of the valiant martyrs of the national liberation revolution.
The Khatib of the Gulshan Jamee Masjid, Anwarul Hoque, recited the Fatiha and prayed for the valiant martyrs, as well as for the prosperity of Algeria and Bangladesh.
Ambassador Abdelouahab Saidani then presented a wreath of flowers in tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the great cause of Algerian independence.
In his speech on this occasion, the Ambassador emphasised the importance of this day, stressing that it recalls the immense sacrifices made by the Algerian people and reinforces the country’s commitment to a united future. He also highlighted the relevance of this year’s slogan, ‘In the footsteps of victory, faithful to the March of the Free’, embodying the spirit of the struggle for Algerian independence.
In the same line of thoughts, he recalled that the Evian Agreements laid the foundations for Algeria’s referendum on self-determination, held on 1 July 1962, which led to the country’s declaration of independence on 5 July 1962, coinciding with the 132nd anniversary of the French colonisation of Algeria on 5 July 1830.
The Ambassador also spoke of Algeria’s development as a country with undeniable potential, which is undergoing a radical transformation in its 58 districts, covering some 2,400,000 km². He also highlighted Algeria’s open-door policy to promote investment and foster a pleasant business environment, thereby contributing to the economic development of the country and the entire region.
AZM Jalal Uddin, a Bangladeshi army officer and former member of MINURSO, paid a vibrant tribute to Algeria’s martyrs.
Finally, a documentary in English on the Evian Agreements was shown.
