The Embassy of Algeria in Dhaka, in partnership with UNOPS and Diplomat magazine, co-hosted a roundtable on 3 December 2025 to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event highlighted Algeria’s active engagement within the United Nations on human rights issues and provided a platform for strengthening dialogue among diplomatic missions, UN agencies, government institutions and development partners. On the occasion, Ambassador Abdelouahab Saidani reaffirmed Algeria’s long-standing commitment to promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities, recalling the country’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and recent national legislation supporting persons with specific needs. Senior representatives from UNOPS, including the Chief of UNOPS Bangladesh Mission, representatives from the Diplomat magazine and leading disability-advocacy institutions in Bangladesh underscored the importance of inclusive policies, accessibility, rehabilitation and the recognition of persons with disabilities as rights-holders.

The panel discussions featured contributions from experts, practitioners and representatives of the disability community, who emphasized the need to move beyond awareness toward meaningful implementation, coordination and inclusive public policies. The event concluded with a shared call to action aimed at strengthening national and international efforts toward a more equitable and participatory society. This commemoration further deepened collaboration between the Embassy of Algeria and UNOPS Bangladesh, paving the way for enhanced cooperation on accessibility, rehabilitation and the promotion of disability rights
