In an atmosphere of reflection, the Algerian Embassy in Dhaka commemorated National Moudjahid Day on 20 August 2025 with a flag-raising ceremony at its headquarters. The commemoration was attended by leading Bangladeshi figures, Algerian nationals and distinguished guests. The event recalled the double anniversary of the North Constantinois Offensive (1955) and the Soummam Congress (1956), symbols of resistance and unity in the fight for Algerian independence. In her speech, Ms Basma Bentaleb Derdar, acting ai Chargée d’affaires, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Algerian people in the face of colonisation and recalled the historic significance of this day. She stressed that, despite the bloody repression in Constantine, this episode strengthened the unity and determination of the liberation movement.
The ceremony continued with the screening of documentaries recounting these founding episodes. It served to rekindle the spirit of the Moudjahid while strengthening the ties of brotherhood and cooperation between Algeria and Bangladesh.
